Ik als echte Cabrinha fan ben natuurlijk weer aan het speuren geweest.
De volgende info ben ik al tegen gekomen van Kitepower Australië:
" Leaving Sydney and the onset of chilly weather for the Cabrinha dealer conference on Oahu, Hawaii, was not all that difficult. It was made easier still because I was accompanied by Geoff Mallinson (
http://www.geoffmallinson.com/) and Rhys Porter from KP Brisbane.
Hawaii’s reputation for reliable winds did not disappoint – we kited every day for eight days
straight, starting out with 10-14 knots on the first day. These winds were ideal for testing the
bigger boards and kites out on the sandbar in Kaneohe Bay, and we rode the new Light Wind
5-strut 16m Crossbow, plus a 14m Switchblade and Vector. We were also able to familiarise
ourselves with the NEW chicken loop. Pete Cabrinha joined us on this trip and we were able to witness his great skills at strapless riding and tacking.
From there on in, we spent our days at a house on the foreshore of Lanikai Beach, which is the
next beach along from well know Kailua. The house allowed us to enjoy unrestricted access to
Flat Island and the waves and reefs that run parallel to the coastline for several kilometres.
Over the next seven days we tested the whole range in winds ranging from 15 to 25+ knots.
The standout kites for Rhys were the new 3-strut wave kite called the Drifter and the Switchblade.
I really liked both of these kites too, and also felt that the LW Crossbow was a big improvement
over last year’s kite.
The 2012 boards are improved and better priced than last year’s. They will range from around
$550 to no more than $800 and all the surfboards will be $900+ range. Standout surfboards
were the Skillit and S-quad, Rhys also liked the Pete Cabrinha Signature board, which is designed
for strapless riding and can be surfed as well as kitesurfed. Unfortunately Reo, Keahi and Rhys
managed to destroy them on the treacherous reef at Mokes up North, on a day trip when the tide
was a bit low…
The 2012 Custom has deeper bottom channels and more spring and pop in the board. The 2012
Caliber is a much more freestyle-suited outline, and now has a three-stage type rocker line with
concave channels that run the whole length of the board. Sync Bindings have been refined and
made even more comfortable, they have retained the shoelace style of adjustment and will again
come in two sizes.
Surfboards have a new look, with a metallic material used in the rails for extra strength and improved appearance, fins have been upgraded and made even more flexible due to customer feedback. All TT fins are also now made from tough, strong G10.
Unfortunately we can’t reveal the kite and board designs and shapes yet, however all three Kitepower stores have some of the new gear in store to demo NOW! Come on in and check it all out! "
Ik ben al wel een foto tegen gekomen hoe de Cabrinha Driifter uit komt te zien. Die heb ik ook bijgevoegd.
