Womens Kite Weekend
21:45 @ 08-12-09, 131 keer bekekenLast weekend a unique event occurred in Raglan New Zealand that is slowly becoming more the norm. Women’s Kite Workshops are beginning to sprout up everywhere as more women are discovering that the amazing world of kiting is not just for men but in fact is the perfect sport for active women combining finesse, agility, flexibility and good judgment. Seem better suited for us wouldn’t you say.
So I offered an affordable workshop for women that would give them the basics as well as support and a network to continue.  My first step was to find the most competent female instructor in New Zealand who would be willing to take the gamble.
Fortunately I found Su Kay an Ozone team rider from Ruakaka and Decay Kiteboards/Kitesurfing Instruction who was not only willing but enthusiastic about getting more women kiting. Then I had to get the women to sign up. I was worried that I wouldn’t get enough interest and would have to cancel but with only a few flyers posted about town and one week ad in the local paper and whallh…56 women signed up. Yeah ladies!
Overall the weekend was an enormous success and hopefully a framework for future workshops that keep the price low and the group support high. It truly would not have been possible without the support of our sponsors Ozone Kites, our male instructors John and Adam and our fearless, yet softly spoken lead instructor, Su Kay. I can’t begin to explain how proud I was of my gender last weekend and how pleased I was to make so many wonderful friends. Now ladies, lets go kite!!!
