The Ozone crew hosted a local fun race day in Raglan New Zealand, the base HQ of the Ozone design team.
The wind arrived as forecasted along with some large chop and current to deal with in the channel, providing some challenging conditions for the competitors. Kite sizes varied from 5m to 11m, with the majority of riders using 7-9m kites.
Ozone Product Manager & Designer Hugh Pinfold took 1st place in the twin tip division riding the Ozone Edge and Underground Styx, showing excellent upwind abilities and downwind speed. In the directional division it was Armie Armstrong crossing the line first ahead of Dave Edwards in 2nd and Ozone Kites Manager/Co-founder Matt Taggart in 3rd, all riding Ozone kites.
A great day had by all, for some riders it was their first day racing and everyone loved it. It was a fun day and we recommend other local schools/dealers should run a fun days racing. The Ozone race buoys worked great, standing upright even in the 8 knot current and 25+ knot gusts coming through on the day.
Big thanks to Ian for setting the marks and starting the race, and also Trevor for sorting out some hot sausages on the BBQ afterwards. Later in the evening Ozone and Raglanland.co.nz put on a party for everyone with plenty of meat and beers to go round. Great night!
We hope everyone enjoyed themselves, see you all next time!
Cheers
