It was strong wind and super choppy conditions for the freestyle here in El Medano, and Ariel and I were both riding the C4 5m in the singles.
Ariel did good and was fighting hard against Youri Zoon for the final, but this time Youri was to hard and went all the way to the top. Ariel had to go for the 3rd and 4th position against Andy Yates. He had a good heat but Andy was a bit better and Ariel ended up 4th.
For me it was a bit strong and I was fighting to hold the 5m, but it went good and I was fighting my way up to 4th in the singles. My best result this year in the freestyle.
In the doubles the result was the same, Ariel and I both in 4th.
Waves:
The waves here are not easy. It’s breaking all over and you have to be careful with the Lava rocks. It was super strong wind and I was on my Catalyst 4m kite overpowered. There was a good swell and I have to say it was a bit hard to figure out how to ride the waves here. The wind was from the left and I was riding switch, I did not have my best heat, but I won my first and was really ready to try to go better for the next. I was doing well all the way to the quarterfinal when I lost by having a bad heat. Again, it was hard to find the waves in my heat and with only 8min in a heat it was not easy. I had a better heat in the looser final and got 3rd. Not to happy about this but I know I have to train more switch, and I will.
Ariel was also competing in the waves. He was also fighting to find the waves in the strong wind. He was on his C4 5m, powered up and got a 9th in the end.
Next wave event will be in Australia. Lets hope it will go better there.
