We are super proud to announce that Peter Lynn Kiteboarding Team rider Luis Alberto Cruz won the 2017 DR Open Kiteboarding Competition in Cabarete, Dominican Republic.
The Dominican republic has always been a cauldron of kiteboarding talent. The reason, besides having great conditions, is that Cabarete was one of the top kiteboarding destination for many of the early pro riders and is still regularly visited by current riders in search of windy training grounds. This has exposed the local aspiring kiteboarders to world class competitive riding and has since produced a string of highly skilled freestylers. You will recurrently find Dominican riders on the world tour in the top 10.
So when the DR open kiteboarding contest takes place, it involves some of the big guns and the level is pretty high. Luis, after having suffered a pretty nasty hand injury during training managed to overcome the discomfort and perform at his best.
It was not an easy path to the top spot with riders like the Corniel brothers and Martinez being strong contenders.
But Luis’s explosive style prevailed on the final day proving that is more than ready to take on the 2017 World Kiteboarding League tour.
Go Luis!
